We aim to provide a cohesive and effective service that meets the needs of land managers and helps to deliver Natural England’s strategic outcomes. We work closely with other organisations that provide advice programmes, and we ensure that our advice reflects the most recent research and ideas, and is practical and commercially realistic.
The service is provided mainly through land management advice events such as farm walks, workshops, clinics and farm visits. It is co-ordinated and supported by national specialists and project managers, and is largely delivered by regional staff, who are led by Natural England’s regional Project Managers for Farm Advice.

The service currently covers the following subject areas:
• Cross compliance • Environmental Stewardship (ES) • Environmentally sustainable land management • Conservation grazing

Eating Biodiversity

Extensive grazing practices are having an identifiable and beneficial impact upon the floristic composition of pastures and producing lamb with more Vitamin E, less skatoles (which tend to spoil flavour) and higher levels of healthy fatty acids. Traditional beef breeds like the Longhorn were better suited to biodiverse pastures and yielded higher quality meat. Producers were engaging in alternative outlets like local shops, farmers markets and web sales and in a number of instances this has permitted increases in on-farm employment
